This summer was to be the 50th Pride Parade and Festival in Iowa City. Sadly, it is not to be.
Iowa City Pride has announced the “tough decision” to cancel the festival due to uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a release Monday, board president Anthony SiVANtha Fanith said that the decision didn’t come lightly, and “many conversations with city officials, other large events and healthcare professionals” led to the decision.
The 50th pride celebration will now be held in 2021.
The release said that all current sponsors and registered vendors for Pride 2020 will rollover to next year’s celebration automatically.
The event was set to take place June 19-20.
