An Iowa City man has been charged after an incident at a convenience store stemming from his lack of clothing.

Police say that 28-year-old Dante Yance of Primrose Court entered the BP convenience store on Lower Muscatine Road just before 4pm Thursday without a shirt. He was told by staff that he had to leave and couldn’t be in the store shirtless. Yance reportedly refused to leave the store despite several requests to do so.

A clerk opened the door to the store and once again asked Yance to leave, and he allegedly responded by punching the clerk in the throat and about the face, drawing blood and causing swelling.

Police caught up with Yance as he was running from the store, and he denied physically assaulting the staff. He reportedly showed signs of intoxication, including bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and the odor of ingested alcohol. Yance  allegedly admitted to drinking.

Yance was taken into custody, and charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Public Intoxication. He could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail if convicted on both counts.
