Allegedly stealing a video game system from an Iowa City residence while the child who uses it was present has led to a North Liberty man’s arrest.

Iowa City Police say just before 4:15 Friday afternoon a witness observed 45-year-old Steven Saxton leaving a residence on the 900 block of North Dodge Street while carrying a PS5 valued at $900. The witness knew Saxton, and knew that the PS5 belonged to the witness’s boyfriend.

The witness contacted police, who found Saxton still wearing the clothes she described. Saxton gave officers permission to search his North Copeland Lane residence, where they found the PS5.

Saxton allegedly admitted to taking the device from the Dodge Street residence. Investigators also learned the victim’s juvenile son was in his room at the time of the theft.

Saxton is charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Burglary. If convicted, he faces a maximum of five years in prison.
