The Solon American Legion is sponsoring a display of the Global War on Terror Wall of Remembrance this weekend.
It’s the first time the wall has been on display in Iowa. The display is a traveling tribute to those who died fighting terrorism worldwide, including the 9/11 attacks.
The wall is on display this weekend at 122 N. Chabal Street in Solon, next to the Johnson County Freedom Rock and the Solon Veterans Memorial. There is no charge for the event, and a portion of Solon’s main street will be closed down over the weekend.
The wall is on display through Sunday. There will be a special ceremony at the memorial at noon on Saturday, with the Iowa Air National Guard landing a UH72 Lakota rotary winged aircraft on Legion Field an hour earlier. The ceremony will be followed by a meetup at the Solon American Legion.
