Campus Safety will soon add a new one-year opt-in option for Hawk Alert text messages, making it easier for campus guests and families to stay informed about campus emergencies.
This update was made in response to feedback from parents and campus partners following last week’s incident and reflects a shared desire for increased awareness and communication about campus emergencies. The expanded option allows individuals who visit campus frequently – or who want to remain informed year-round – to receive Hawk Alert notifications without needing to frequently re-enroll.
Updated Hawk Alert opt-in options
Beginning June 1, campus guests can enroll in Hawk Alert for one year.

The option to enroll for one week is available now and will remain available to all campus guests moving forward.

One week: Text HAWK4WEEK to 67283
The option to enroll for 24 hours (HAWK4DAY) will be decommissioned on May 22. Those who wish to opt-in to alerts should use one of the above options.
Guests will automatically be removed from the system at the end of the timeframe they select and will receive a text when they are removed. Participants may opt out at any time by texting STOP to the same number.

Important reminder
All UI students, faculty, and staff are automatically registered to receive Hawk Alert notifications. This service is provided as a courtesy to people who are visiting campus or want to be aware of emergencies on campus.
Please do not call 911 or Campus Safety dispatch (319-335-5022) during an emergency to seek individual updates; responders are focused on managing the incident and will communicate through Hawk Alert.
