A University of Iowa student is accused of a downtown Iowa City assault that left one person injured.

Iowa City Police were called to The Summit on South Clinton Street just before 10:15 Tuesday night for a fight in progress. Arriving officers say 21-year-old Nyla Hinson of Ames was still actively fighting bar staff who were trying to keep her away from a woman who was allegedly hit by a drink Hinson had thrown at her. Hinson reportedly bit one of the bouncers, causing a bite mark on his arm.

Police say Hinson physically resisted handcuffing from a University of Iowa Police officer.

Hinson is charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on both counts, she faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
