“McLovin” ID doesn’t fool IC police at downtown bar

A Des Moines man faces charges of public intoxication and carrying a very creative fake ID.

Police allege that 20 year old Daniel Burleson was discovered in the Airliner at approximately 12:30 Friday morning, underage, with an alcoholic drink in his hand. Burleson allegedly admitted he was, indeed, drinking a vodka cocktail, but initially refused to give officers his ID.

Burleson was taken out of the bar and he gave officers his ID. When they asked for his fake ID, he denied having one. Burleson then pulled out his wallet and began sorting through it, at which point police could see he his fake ID.

The fake ID, which Burleson stated he got off Amazon, had a nod to the coming-of-age movie Superbad, as it was from Hawaii and listed his name as simply, “McLovin” with a birthdate of June 3rd, 1981, just like the one in the movie.

Police dispatch actually ran a query of the ID, which, not surprisingly, returned no result.

Burleson was additionally charged with being in possession of alcohol underage, being underage in a bar, bringing the possible prison sentence up to a maximum of 14 months.
