Iowa City firefighters extinguish overnight kitchen blaze

Iowa City firefighters extinguished a kitchen fire overnight.

According to a release from the ICFD, crews responded to a stove fire report on the 2000 block of Taylor Drive at 1:30am. The first unit arrived about three minutes later and reported flames coming from the kitchen area. They were able to bring the fire under control in under 15 minutes.

There were no reports of firefighter or resident injuries. The kitchen area was damaged, and smoke damage was reported throughout the home. Initial damage estimates put the loss at about $25,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the city Fire Marshal.
