A Cedar Rapids man stopped after being found urinating near his vehicle faces multiple charges.
A Johnson County sheriff’s deputy came upon 35-year-old Jose Cabeza of Matthews Drive just after 2am Sunday. His vehicle was stopped on the side of Interstate 380 North near Swisher, and Cabeza was about 15 feet away from the Toyota Camry, urinating. He reportedly showed signs of intoxication including bloodshot watery eyes and the odor of ingested alcohol.
Cabeza allegedly admitted to drinking, and chemical testing showed his breath-alcohol level at .135 percent. He was charged with Public Intoxication.
During a post-arrest search, Cabeza reportedly began pulling and twisting away while his pants pockets were being searched. He had to be taken to the ground and still fought the search. An additional deputy had to assist, and a small bag of cocaine was located. Later, under Miranda, Cabeza allegedly admitted to being in possession of the drug.
He faces additional charges of Interference with Official Acts and a controlled substance violation. In total, Cabeza faces up to 14 months in jail if convicted on all counts.
