An overnight fire has damaged the Iowa City building that houses the State Historical Society of Iowa.

The PulsePoint app indicates the Iowa City Fire Department was called to the Centennial Building on Iowa Avenue at 11:55 Thursday night. They were on the scene for just under two hours.

KCRG TV-9 reports there was little damage, although firefighters had to cut a small hole in the roof. No cause has been released.

Just last month, the State Historical Society of Iowa announced it would be moving all of its property inside the Centennial Building to its newly revamped facility in Des Moines.
