An Iowa City man arrested for marijuana possession faces a felony after attempting to smuggle the drug into the Johnson County Jail.

27-year-old Dino Mulasila of Tracy Lane was arrested just after 3:30am Monday for a controlled substance violation near the intersection of Tofting Avenue and Russell Drive. He was taken to the Jail for processing, and when asked if he had any contraband on him upon arrival, he said no.

A further search in the jail by staffers allegedly found a baggie containing cannabis in Mulasila’s shoe.

Bringing Contraband into a Correctional Facility is a Class D Felony, punishable by a prison sentence of up to five years if convicted.
