A woman accused in a robbery at the Iowa City Marketplace has avoided any jail time in a plea deal.
Online court records show Sara Schrader, 27, had charges of Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon and Possession of Dangerous Weapon While Under the Influence dismissed last month. She then pleaded guilty to 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief – reduced from a 2nd Degree charge – and Reckless Use of a Firearm Causing Property Damage, and Possession of a Controlled Substance, being sentenced to two years of probation and receiving a deferred judgment on roughly $1500 in fines.
The deferred judgment means if Schrader follows the terms of her probation, the charges could eventually be expunged from her record.
Schrader is accused of going to Aaron’s Rental with Michael Shapcott, 29, who she lives with at a home on Spruce Street, the afternoon of Sept. 3. Police say Schrader went inside the store, went behind the counter and took cash from the register. When an employee stopped her, she allegedly fled to Shapcott’s waiting vehicle.
The pair are then accused of firing multiple rounds from handguns at the store as they left, with police saying at least two of those shots entered the store and several others hit the building.
No injuries were reported.
Shapcott, who had pleaded not guilty, was scheduled to have a new plea hearing earlier this month. However, court records do not show a judgment, yet, in his case.
